It doesn't matter whether you're in a department store or a discount mountain bike shop, it won't take long before you see what kind of bike is the most popular type. If you're old enough like me, you may recall how it use to be. Everyone had to have a ten speed bike. Most people still don't really identify with mountain bikes. The variety of discount mountain bikes is a good reason to do your homework on the many different types.
Here are some things I suggest you deliberate before making that purchase. Nobody makes the same caliber and construction of mountain bike. Every rider has different needs and use applications, so the makers all have reasons for the many styles. Most mountain bike makers have four product lines, if they make the common line of mountain bikes. First, decide what your bike will be used for. There's no other way to really discern what bike will work best for your needs. If you didn't already experience it, many sales people get paid a commission to sell you the bike. Let the sales person talk, but don't buy into everything they say. The selection you make should only be based on your careful inquiry and planning.
Don't forget this one last thing before you make your final decison: Do you want a bike with full suspension or hard tail? Full suspension would be the best if you're a mountain biker looking for a rugged performer. Full suspension does cost more, but if you can afford it, get it. If you just can't afford it, get the hard tail. Realize that with the hard tail, you won't have any rear suspension, but you will have better peddling and a lighter bike. Full suspension bikes are known to be more comfortable. It's a great alternative over the hard tail, unless, you just can't afford it at the time.
Always take a test drive of the bike before entirely making up your mind. Give several different bikes a test drive before you make the final decision. You can save even more money with discount mountain bikes. Do these essential steps in finding the bike you want and you'll have a fit for the best model for you.
When you're looking for a discount mountain bike, do it just you would anything else. Check different sites to find the best deal available. You could drive all over town shopping, but there are superior ways.
